In the previous lession we learnt about Jesus resurrection and ascension. In this lesson, we will explain to you how you can be saved and become a child of God. First however, we need to answer three very important questions:
1) “What does it mean to be saved?”
This means that God forgives us our sins and make us His children.
2) “Can we be saved by doing good things?”
No, we cannot. It does not matter how hard we try, we cannot be perfect. We have all sinned.
3) “Can everybody be saved?”
Yes! All people can be saved. Even young children can accept the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. The Lord Jesus Christ once said,
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10 vs. 14.
If you are old enough to know that what you did or said was wrong then you can be saved.
We are now going to consider how we can be saved in five steps with Bible references for a better understanding.
God tells us that
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3 vs. 23
Therefore, if you want to be saved, the first step is for you to realize that you have sinned and repent of your sins. Do you admit that you are a sinner? And how do you feel about that?
The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3 vs. 16. Who is God referring to when He speaks of “the world”? He is talking about all of us! This includes you and me. Which means you may shout to the top of your voice, “God loves me!”
“…Christ died for us.” Romans 5 vs. 8
God sent us His Son to be our Saviour because He loved us. The Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God, died for sinners. He died for me, and He also died for you. Just as before, you can shout with confidence that, “Jesus died for me!” Say that right now.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1 vs. 12
To become a child of God, I need to come to the Lord Jesus Christ as a sinner and accept him as my personal savior. God sent His Son to be my savior and I need to accept him. In other words, I must take him as my personal savior. Then I shall be a child of God.
You understand that don’t you? If you want to be forgiven of your sins you must accept the Lord Jesus as your personal saviour. You can do that at this moment.
The Lord Jesus said,
“…whoever comes to me, I shall in no wise cast him out.”
This matter is between you and the Lord Jesus Christ. That is why you need to move into a private and silent place where no one can disturb you. If you truly understand what you have learned so far, then using your own words, ask the Lord Jesus to come into your heart.
• What will the Lord Jesus do after you ask him to come into your heart?
• He said, “I will enter in.”
• Does He keep His word?
• Yes!
• Then if indeed you have asked him to come into your heart, he is in it!
• Now he is your savior!
• You are now a child of God!
• You have eternal life! Jesus said,
“…he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” John 6 vs. 47
If indeed you have accepted the Lord Jesus as your savior it is time for you to thank him for coming into your heart and making you a child of God. Do that now!
IMPORTANT POINT OF NOTE:
• The moment I asked Jesus into my heart, he entered in!
Which steps have you taken so far?
In our next lesson, we will learn five amazing things that will happen to those who have accepted the Lord Jesus
