Have you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior as we have learned in the previous lesson? We hope so. You will remain forever happy if you have done so. Many great things happen to us once we have accepted the Lord Jesus as our Savior. In this lesson, we will learn about five amazing things that will happen to those who have accepted the Lord.
The moment we confess our sins and accept the Lord Jesus as our savior, God forgives us all of our sins. He forgives us because Jesus died for our sins. The Bible says,
“I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.” 1 John 2 vs. 12
Another amazing thing that happens to us when we accept the Lord Jesus as our Savior is that God makes us His own children. The Bible says,
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1 vs. 12
If you have accepted the Lord Jesus as your Savior you are now a child of God. God is your heavenly father. He loves you and wants to talk with you every day through prayer.
When we got saved, the Lord Jesus Christ comes to dwell in our hearts. He is in heaven, but he is also in our hearts. The apostle Paul expressed it this way,
“Christ lives in me.”
We may also speak like him if Christ is our Savior. Have you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you can say, “Christ lives in me!”
It is so amazing to become a child of God and for Christ to live in our hearts. This however, does not mean that we can never ever do evil. We are still tempted to sin but when that happens Jesus Christ gives us the power to resist temptations. He has promised never to leave us as he says,
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13 vs. 5
Because the Lord Jesus Christ lives in your heart, you want to please Him and do everything that He expects you to do. If there comes a point where you are not sure what to do, ask yourself this simple question, “will the Lord Jesus be pleased to see me do this.” If you feel the answer is no, then don’t do it.
The moment we accept the Lord Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to stay in us. Every child of God has the Holy Spirit living in him or her. The Bible teaches us that,
“And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts” Galatians 4 vs 6.
What is the function of the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit helps us to know that God is our Father and we are His children. He helps us also to understand the Bible and teaches us about the Lord Jesus. Furthermore, He helps us to love the Lord and become more like Him
When we accept the Lord Jesus Christ, God gives us eternal life. At that moment our names are written in the “The Lamb’s Book of Life”. We belong to the Lord Jesus Christ forever and we have everlasting life.
The Bible says,
“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life…” John 3 vs. 36
What does it mean to say that we have “everlasting life?”
It means that Christ lives in us. Because He lives in us, we can be certain that we will go to Heaven. We need not fear death. When we die, we are going to be with the Lord Jesus forever.
How can we be sure that we have everlasting life? We know this because God said so. In the Bible we read,
“He who has the Son has life…” 1 John 5 vs. 12
– God says something!
– I believe God!
– End of story!
Perhaps you are wondering, “What would happen to me if I fall into sin? Does that mean I am no longer a child of God?”
No, that is not the case. Once we become God’s children, we are His children forever. Remember that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised never to leave us, but sin does interrupt the peace we have with God.
The question now is, what do we do once we realize that we have sinned? We must do the following:
1. Confess your sins before God
2. Trust Him to forgive you.
God has promised to forgive us our sins if we confess them before Him. Listen to what the Bible says,
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1 vs. 9
God wants you to learn more about His great plan and promises for you. He would like you to know Him intimately, therefore you must take time to read the Bible and pray to God every day.
God also wants you to associate with a local gathering of Christians or church. It is according to His plan that Christians should meet together to learn about Him, to worship and serve Him. Always remember that God loves you because He has given you a very special gift of prayer and His great love through the salvation brought by the work of His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
